# What the game actually requires
Community Knowledge The in-game list is labelled as recommendations, not requirements, and players say the monument purchase is not locked behind it[1][3]. What you do need is to reach the last floor of your current world[3] and to pay the monument's gem cost[1]: 2,000 gems for World 2[1] and 7,500 gems for World 3[3][2].
Community Knowledge How well the recommendations are calibrated is disputed. Newer players tend to worry that they take too long; the experienced counter-view is that they skew significantly too low, erring on the side of not enough rather than overkill[1][3]. The reason given for following them is that each new world is a substantial difficulty step up from the previous one[3].
# World 2: what most players do
Community Knowledge The question usually comes up because building every statue seems to take days, while obelisk progress stalls in the meantime[2]. Most players who answer it do not wait for every statue. They unlock World 2 for its passive benefits and do not try to play its floors yet.
Community Knowledge Why: opening World 2 gives strong buffs that speed up progression without playing on World 2 floors. The suggested point is after 2 to 3 statues, since crafting the rest without those buffs is a slog[1]. Unlocking World 2 for its vein contracts, without setting foot on its floors, is a common recommendation, because finishing every statue on World 1 vein generation is too slow[2].
Community Knowledge The vein numbers: clearing the first two World 2 zones is easy and unlocks up to an 8% golden vein chance (a 1.5x boost on veins), plus two contracts worth a 40% vein income multiplier and another 5% golden vein chance. Together that nearly triples vein income from barely touching World 2[1]. Players who unlocked early also found the gold vein chance, upgrade cap increase, lootbug loot modifier and World 2 contract upgrades enormously helpful, and the new workshop and contract upgrades helped once statue farming became tedious[2].
Community Knowledge How far players go before unlocking. Reported setups vary[2][1]:
- 6 statues built before the World 2 monument, with the final 3 skipped after checking their stats and finding them unhelpful[2].
- World 2 entered with 4 statues still left[2].
- The monument unlocked at Obelisk 23 with 4 statues and 38 challenges, to gain power points for the next 2 obelisks[1].
- Everything done except Challenge 40, which was called useless and too expensive in time or gems[1].
Version-sensitive Events. During active in-game events, having World 2 unlocked doubles certain event rewards, which was reported to give back 500 of the 2,000 gems the monument cost[1]. The advice is to hold event rewards until the monument is built so they get the 2x multiplier, and several players point to this as a reason to unlock[1][2].
Community Knowledge The downside is small. In the worst case you find you cannot mine World 2 floors yet and go back to farm World 1, having lost only the unlock gems[1].
# World 2: the finish-the-statues-first view
Community Knowledge A smaller but firm group says to build the statues first. Their reasons: World 2 ores need substantially more damage to mine, so progress there is very difficult without the recommended upgrades, which makes the statues a no-brainer[1]. World 2 is much stronger than World 1, and unprepared players struggle hard[1]; pushing into it early makes almost everything feel impossible and sends you straight back to World 1[1]. In this view you can go to World 2, but you cannot do anything there, so the statues come first[2], and they are more immediately useful for progression than starting World 2's new grind[2].
Community Knowledge Some in this group go further. They gild statues before World 2 to secure all the gem economy upgrades, pointing out that early players cannot afford World 2 contracts anyway and that stargazing demands a lot of veins[2]. Another suggested checklist before World 2: challenges, prestige, all statues, the Stonks skill, and pets up to Whale[1].
Recommendation A simple way to decide: obelisk level is mainly a gate between tiers. If you are waiting on veins or bars, pushing the monument helps. If you are waiting on gems, spending 2,000 gems on the monument delays your statues and gives you no gem benefit[2].
# World 3: why the -30% debuff changes the rules
Community Knowledge World 3 has a debuff that World 2 does not: 30% less game speed and gems while you are on World 3 floors[3]. It stays until you make enough fishing progress to remove it[3].
Community Knowledge Players broadly agree on how to handle it. They warn that it is easy to underestimate, and advise staying out of World 3 as long as possible, because every second there earns 30% fewer gems[3]. The practical rule is that you can unlock World 3 whenever you want, but should not spend time on its floors until the debuff is gone[3]; the debuff will push you back to World 2 until it is cleared anyway[3]. Some players with the monument already built (one at 28% completion) still hold back in World 2 until the debuff is removed[3].
Recommendation The usual World 3 plan is a short rush and retreat[3]:
- Max earlier stars: max all World 1 and World 2 stars, including the 10 extra levels from the Castor idol in archaeology[3].
- Quick Orion unlock: unlock World 3, spend a couple of hours pushing floors to unlock the Orion star, then leave[3].
- Farm Orion in World 2: 3 of its 5 rotations are in World 2, so you avoid the -30% debuff entirely[3].
- Short statue bursts: if Orion is slow to level while the debuff is still active, you can grab 1 to 3 World 3 statues, but keep those sessions short because of the gem loss[3].
Community Knowledge When to pay the 7,500 gems is disputed. One approach builds the monument early just for the 3x event gifts, as reported at Obelisk 42 with 6 of 9 statues at platinum, and then stays off World 3 floors until the debuff is cleared[3]. Another view calls unlocking World 3 cheap, because its contract benefits help in the background even while you are still blocked until World 2 is finished[3]. On the other side, spending 7,500 gems on World 3 before you are ready is called a waste: spend gems first on gilding cards and archaeology upgrades in World 2[3].
# Example: getting past Obelisk 50 before World 3
Community Knowledge One reported case shows how these trade-offs play out. The player had been stuck at Obelisk 49 for 2 to 3 weeks and did not want to commit to World 3. Beating Obelisk 50 needed about 5sx physical damage, against about 3sx at the time. It would unlock the Motley School upgrade, speed up fishing, and help remove the World 3 debuff, which was about 4,000 tokens away[4].
Community Knowledge Building World 3 statues for damage was slow: the first took almost 3 hours with painful gem loss from the debuff, and a second was calculated at around 30 hours without Tier 2 items[4]. Replies suggested clearing only the first 3 zones of World 3 for the early upgrades and levelling the Dino pet while collecting statue veins, in short online sessions that give strong bonuses without losing many gems[4]. Statues were reported to go much faster with consumables such as Rainbow Lollipop, Lasagna, Gold Steak and Pizza, plus the transmuter on Golden Galactic floors[4]. Another suggestion was to spend a day or two levelling pets to reach the damage needed[4].
Recommendation What worked was the pet. Buying the Dino pet for 4,000 gems and running a vein-farming build in World 3 for less than 5 minutes got it to level 2. That gave a 1.4x physical damage boost, to 5.2sx, and Obelisk 50 fell on the first try. With Motley School unlocked, the debuff could be removed faster while the player stayed in World 2 to farm Orion without any gem loss[4].
